Hangers vs. Spikes ... what you need to know

Spikes leave a 1/4" hole in the fascia
Spikes does not hold well
Spikes often crack lumber
Spikes are not strong
Once spikes are loosened it is difficult to reinstall the spike
because the hole in the fascia will be larger than the spike.
During installation spike may dent the face of the gutter
Eventually the gutter will sag and loosen

Hangers do not leave large holes in the fascia
Hangers hold very well because screws are used
Hangers do not crack lumber
Hangers are easy to modify and make adjustments
Hangers leave a smooth finish to the gutter face

Helpful hints:
Hangers should be about 32" on center (apart).
There should be 3 screws in between hangers.
5" gutter should use #8 stainless steel screws.
6" gutter should use #10 stainless steel screws.
Make sure your screws are stainless steel because
galvanize screws will rust thru your gutter.
